13 In Korean learning journey (:/ TOPIK

이제부터 열심히 하겠습니다 – TOPIK preparations!

I have to admit that I’m someone that put in effort, but never my best. It’s been quite long (or is this the first time?) since I’ve really wanted to work super hard towards something.

Yes, I want to get a TOPIK 6 in the 30th TOPIK exam. And I will work hard for it.

Time to see how hard-core I can get ㅎㅎㅎㅎ

Looking at my TOPK Level 5 certificate made me wonder how I passed it in the first place -.- Oh well.

I’m usually for the idea to relax and enjoy studying Korean. But for TOPIK 6, I think that it’s something that I can’t just pass by doing it things the relaxing and normal way. So I shall do it the hard-core way.

hehe I think the last time I’m so hard core about Korean was in 2008 HAHA. When I studied so hard I passed TOPIK 4 within 1 year plus of Korean study. Even then I didn’t think I put in my best? Don’t know.

Looking at my standard now, I suddenly wondered if I can’t pass TOPIK 6 without a teacher or classes. NO I CANNOT DOUBT MYSELF. I am stubborn. So I want to pass TOPIK 6 just by self studying. ㅎㅎㅎ I want to be able to say that I self-studied to a TOPIK 6. hahahaha. Okay me and my expectations. -.-

The grammar dictionary shall be my new bedtime story. 😀

I love challenges.

Hi, does your TOPIK certs have an expiry date? I see that they have this new inclusion recently or has it always been the case? What can I do with a TOPIK cert when I can’t get employment in Korea ( even teaching)? Do you have any suggestions^^ thx!

yes they do (new inclusion but the rule kinda always have been there i think)! I can’t remember how many years they are valid for though.. i believe 2 years!

mmm for me, TOPIK certs are just one the ways to gauge my proficiency. I take them just for fun. ^^

I know everybody has their own methods, but just out of curiosity, how do you study grammar? I am studying Japanese like every SINGLE day till a point I get so sick about remembering those grammar rules. Recently, I kind of neglected grammar and focus more on vocabulary, silently hoping that those rules will somehow penetrate the thick skull of mine.

But having said that, I am aiming for JLPT N2 this year so I, unfortunately, can’t ignore grammar anymore!! (God knows how I passed N3)

    Any advice?

PS: By the way, it is great to see your continued dedication to Korean! You are a source of inspiration to all language learners! 🙂

mmm normally i just study the grammar points in a context. like textbook chapters usually introduce 2-3 grammar points per chapter. I usually get them after reading through it once/twice and finishing the chapter. But for advanced Korean grammar, I’m reading the grammar dictionary -.- I somehow can’t remember them, so can’t really advise ><; good luck for N2 this year!! I plan on taking N3... in the... undetermined future LOL

Doth thyne eyes deceiveth me? (I think that’s incorrect… I kinda wanna study how to correctly write like that. XD) You passed TOPIK level 4 with a year of studying? How much did you study? O.o What level would you say you were up to in the Yonsei series and the Integrated Korean series?

This really makes me want to go back to working hard. I got burned out after high school and have been like @.@ ever since. Japanese is still trolling my Korean by the way.

Japanese: You wanna study Korean? Pfft. No you don’t. You don’t need that. Here. Take this Japanese.
Korean: TToTT You loved me for two weeks and got stolen away.

I believe in you. You can do it! 😀 Go get that next level! Wait, how many levels are there? o.o

hahaha!! mm i dunno how much i studied. I remember being pretty hard core and studying almost everyday? hahahahaha. it’s so many years back. I only learnt of the Yonsei series in 2010 so I dunno, but I was using level 6 (the highest) then.
And yup I kinda finished the whole integrated korean series.

Maybe I should say 1 year + counting from the time i started self studying, since TOPIK was in october. but if you count from the time i learnt hangeul, erm less than 2 years?

hehehe Korean is my one true love lol!!

      p.s. 6 levels

        Hi!
I also have a question about TOPIK level 4. Do you need to know hanja?
Your blog inspired me to take TOPIK next year. And good luck for you with your TOPIK. I’m sure I’ll be keeping track of your posts.

Hello ^^ I am also taking TOPIK 30th exam but 중급 after a year of Korean… I don’t know if I can do it but I’ll work hard for it… I wish I could pass lvl 3… It seems really hard and I’m affraid I can’t make it 🙁 TOPIK lvl2 is really too easy for me so I really need to have at least lvl3 !!! If you have any tips I’ll gladly receive them! Good luck to you and may the power of Korean be with us xD

Just try! You never know until you try! It will be a good experience in itself. So don’t think too much! I don’t really have any tips, just keep putting in consistent work and you will see the results of your hard work!

Thank you for your support ^^ I tried like you said and I really didn’t expect that, I got 52/100 on both 어휘문법 and 듣기 ! So I basically have, for those parts at least, level 3 weepee! I don’t think I can reach lvl 4 but I will study bearing in mind that I need to reach it (but my real goal is lvl3 so if I don’t have it I won’t be disapointed haha xD) So now I’m just going to check out everything I didn’t understand and memorize it… Let’s hope my brain can handle more Korean 😀 Especially because I’ve been in serious study mode since 6months (before that I wasn’t really learning anything u.u). And by the way, I saw your results on 고급 and I’m happy to see you’re doing super good !!!! Good luck to us ! Let’s keep going~ 열공하자!
