The Dilemma

It has been quite a while since I was last blogging so irregularly.

During the best times, I used to be blogging once every other day so it makes me a little sad that I have less reason / motivation to write.

I did try to write a few entries during the past month, but always ended up in the trash.

I write about language learning, but now that I don’t actively spend so much time studying, I find it hard to write about the topic without coming off as repetitive. In the rare moments when I have time to study, I rather do the actual studying rather than blog about it.

The few times I wanted to write about more general stuff, I ended up deleting them since I didn’t quite like the idea of putting too much of my personal life online.

Recently, I’ve been (even) more careful about the stuff I put online, so instead of mulling over it, I’ll just not post.

This explains my absence.

I’ll try to view it positively and see it as a motivation to set aside more time to study so I will have things to write and share again!

Just to share some recent updates:

(1) I need to study for JLPT (I can’t believe it’s 2 months away!)

(2) I have been putting effort to become better in Mandarin Chinese (I started a notebook!!)

While Mandarin Chinese is my Mother Tongue, it is not the language that I’m the most comfortable with, especially in more formal situations.

I’ve been consistently reading in Chinese since high school and in the recent few years, it’s the language that I read most in (for leisure).

Time to put in even more effort ^^

I’m sorry that I haven’t been writing much, it also makes me sad when I see many of my language-learner friends set aside language learning to focus on other aspects of life.

And then I get even sadder when I see myself doing something similar, although languages and my life is pretty much bound together at this point in time.

The absence might continue for awhile more, but I’ll come back a better version of myself. (:

I cannot express how thankful I am to this space and everyone whom I met through this blog.

There’s just too much to give up.

    Hi!
How are you studying for the JLPT? Are you using some specific books?

For a moment I don’t quite know how to answer since I haven’t been studying for JLPT >< but the books I'm using now are mainly New Kanzen Master N2 (grammar), novels I've been reading and a grammar dictionary.

Well we have a pretty busy life style ㅠㅠI have to put off studying because of work and whenever I do have time I prefer to relax and laze around.

I know how you feel when life starts taking you in a different direction. Maybe you will have to change the focus of your blog to fit you. Maybe start doing a question and answer section as you have a lot of expertise from learning languages and could help some learners who haven’t been self-studying on there own.

Hi! I’m in my junior year of high school studying Chinese, Japanese and Korean and your blog inspires me so much! I gave up on Korean for a while when visiting Japan but I picked it up again thanks to you (and the fact my two closest friends are native koreans living in America ) and I’m currently using Korean digital academy which has video lectures and odd and I think it’s even better than TTMIK for me as they have different sections for reading, writing, speaking and listening as well as a place to get tested on what you’ve learnt. I keep learning because I love it and I hope to be as fluent as you one day ^^
    頑張ってくださいね〜

Same here. Language learning has taken a back seat due to life and general adulting business that takes so much time and energy. Had been pondering to let go of my korean books but am wishy washy about it. :O

Maybe later (much later!) I might feel that interest again.

Good to see an update even if just a short one!

Hi Mic! Perhaps you can keep a few and then let go the easier ones if you really feel that you will not be coming back to it anytime soon! It’s not an easy decision I know >< Nevertheless, don't give it up completely and just try to stay in touch with the language once in a while! (: Thanks for reading the blog!
