Seriously. Polyglots are one of the coolest groups of people. I aspire to be one, but it’s so difficult.
I’m talking about polyglots who successfully learn more than 1 language in their adult life, and be fluent in them. Not those that can speak many languages as a result of their family circumstances and or those that learn them as a child.
Seriously, having Korean on my plate is more than enough. I need a pail if I want to add in Japanese. >.<
Really admire those who can learn more than 1 language at the same time. And succeed in them. >.<
I still have such a long way more to go for Korean. Can’t really read an entire book without the dictionary at this moment in time.
In addition to my fav Korean historical novel 전우치, I’m now also reading the MODERN HISTORY of Korea. Sorry, I’m still miffed that it’s not ancient history. ㅠㅠㅠ
Never thought that I’ll have interest in history. HISTORY.
Learning a lot of new political and erm historical terms. 입헌군주제 (constitutional monarchy), 제국주의 (imperialism). woooow.
Just a few pages into the first chapter and I’m pretty fascinated. 😀
I’m really curious on how much Koreans know about their own history. Personally… I am terrible at Singapore history. I can barely remember the important dates >.<
The book is super cool. The author argues that the strong sense of nationalism and 집단주의 (collectivism) as opposed to 개인주의 (individualism) is crouched in the history of Korea. It’s hard to explain but I feel like I’m gaining a deeper understanding of how Koreans think and behave after learning about their history.
I’m only a few pages into the 1st book. There are 4 altogether.
Aim to finish it by June 2013 😀

27 November, 2012 at 2:19 PMThis reminded me of a book I wanted to pick up! Or a site I want to find. XD I wanted to learn more about Korean history since I don’t really know too much about it. Korea appeared on my map about one or two years ago. I won’t be able to read a historical novel in Korean yet, so anything I can find in English will be useful. Time to search for sites and books. HI HO SILVER, AWAY! (Is that how it goes? Away? Awaits? lolwat?)
