Blogging in a foreign language

懐かしい〜〜 Time has really passed since the day I set up my first ever (and the only one..) Korean blog! ><;; I still remember it was sometime in Feb 2009, around 1 year from the start of my Korean learning journey. I haven’t wrote in there for months.. >< Feel so ashamed of myself. D: Makes me wonder how I manage to keep up this blog up till now. And some of you might know that I have a new Japanese blog. Was writing in it just now and all the memories of starting a Korean blog came back to me. I’ll talk about my Japanese blog next time!

(I was wondering what made me stop writing in it, and now that I’m browsing through it, I realized why. SO PISSED THAT NAVER KEEP LOGGING ME OUT EVERY FEW MIN)

And now I’m stumped. Either I have not improved in 3 years still or I’m blind or there isn’t a list of all the posts I’ve written in the admin section. I see 덧글 관리 but no 글 관리. mmm okay…

I still remembered being really really really excited when I first created my Naver account. This is an old post I wrote about creating the blog! I couldn’t really navigate Korean sites then and if you guys have been to Naver, you will know that its a whole clutter of links. But it was so fun trying to figure out how to decorate my blog, how to change the banner, how to add a post. I still remember how I took like an hour or so just to write up the first ever post!!! Which is shown below heehee.

And the day I received my first ever comment from a Korean! omg. I think I was like super super happy. I actually got to know some of my Korean friends through the blog and in fact, I met up with a few of them and I do have friends that I still keep in contact up till now!! (: I think I really should be active in it again. Yes, the more I think about it, the more I wondered why I gave up on it. ^^;;

So many Koreans left messages for me, corrected my sentences, left me comments and encouragement. >< So touched. Everytime I received a comment I was like SUPER HAPPY. I think the blog even got up to a few hundred views a day at one time. The sense of satisfaction that Koreans actually read what I wrote 😀 😀

why did i give up on it? o.o

Seriously, sometimes it’s really through such random self reflection that I realized how important some things are. I could really see my progress with the Naver blog. At the beginning, I was like seriously taking hours just to write a few sentences. Word by word, typing on the keyboard meticulously. I was slow, but each sentence I completed made me sooo happy. And slowly the post length grew and I grew more comfortable in my writing.

I could only write about my daily life and other simple topics at first, but nowadays (the most recent posts) I wrote about almost anything I want. 😀 When I first started, I had to simplify a lot of the things that I wanted to express because I don’t know the expressions and leave out a lot of things. But slowly, writing in Korean got more natural and my typing speed improved too! I can almost type as fast in Korean as I do in English. ^^

When I was blogging in Japanese the other day, I was super slow. It took me 40 min to clobber out the top new post and it was like.. just a few sentences ^^; But it’s immensely satisfying to be typing our your thoughts (however mundane) in a foreign language. Like Korean, I can read and listen much better in Japanese than I can speak or write. Hopefully I’ll get better at it soon.
