Year End Reflections Part 1 – the real life

It’s less than 2 weeks to the end of 2014! ^^

This has been quite a year for me and for the first time in many years, I actually found some stability in my life. That improved my mental state tremendously. I’ve settled down to a routine and found comfort in that.

Come to think of it, I dont know how I managed to survive 2013 in one piece haha. >< This year, I got to try a number of new things and overall Im very very grateful for the opportunities. It's funny how something that I used to think i'll hate (and did dislike at the start) end up growing on me hahaha. So I guess I should really throw away all these preconceived notions. That's the big picture. Of course, there were a lot of ups n downs this year too (slightly more downs) that made me an even more jaded human being lol. That being said, I am now a lot more appreciative of the few awesome people in my life. I used to be the type that have a clear plan for the future but in recent years, Im more inclined to go with the flow and see where it brings me. People have been asking about my plans in the next few years and I always just shrug and say I dunno. >< Maybe settling in the comfort has dulled my senses, but I dont feel any desire to do any particular thing (as of now). Maybe it's part of growing old, I often look back and wondered how I manage to do all the things I did (which was no easy path). I was determined to take the road less travelled till the end but somehow I am moving back to the main track. With certain decisions made, it does seem like Korean is going to be simply a hobby for me (: After trying so hard and so long, I've come back to square 1. O.o But it does feel different this time round. I can confidently say that I really really like the language a lot, with no other emotional or stress baggage. I'm very much looking forward to 2015, and I'm going to start off the new year by trying out new things and going on a journey of self-discovery. (: I just have to survive the next 2 weeks in my best condition ^^

Hi Shanna. I just wanted to say that your posts are very inspiring to me. I’ve been a silent reader on the blog for some time (I don’t even remember how long) and for some reason decided to comment today. I find it interesting that we think alike on a lot of things about language learning (and Korean more specifically). I am currently learning Chinese because of volunteer work I do in the Chinese community, but am also looking forward to someday delving more into my Korean studies. Unfortunately active studying is on hold and all I do now is watch dramas and listen to Korean music. 🙁 I can definitely relate to the year being full of ups and downs. I was struck with an unidentifiable illness in June and only last week was finally diagnosed. Thanks again for all the work you put into your blog and the inspiration you give to all of your readers. My passion for languages and Korean things in general keeps me going through hard times, and so do you! Sorry the reply is so long and I’m looking forward to your next post.
