Yay to increased Japanese reading speed!

My Japanese reading speed seemed to have miraculously improved 😀

Okay, maybe not very miraculous, since I have been reading in Japanese everyday for the past month or so. But it’s not like a a deliberate effort (and it doesn’t feel as if I “consciously forced” myself to do it) so it does feel like the improvement is a surprise.

I guess this is why I believe that language learning should be about interest and fun and you should willingly want do it. That is also how can improve the fastest and most effectively.

I’ve been spending around 2 hours a day reading in Japanese (commuting time..) and have been doing it for nearly 2 months. I have also been in immersion mode (Japanese radio / songs / anime all the way) so I guessed that helped too 😀

Spending commuting time reading also helped to make me more relaxed after a tiring day or to prepare myself for the day ahead. So it’s really killing two birds with one stone.

I’ve taken to noting down in the first page of the book the following:

• the date of purchase
• start date of reading ~ end date of reading

I guess I just want to look at my books fondly 10 years later and be happy that the younger me wasn’t totally a lazy bum. ><

I cannot believe I finished a Japanese novel within 6 days!! Okay, I did have more reading time during this CNY holiday period 😛

I loved loved loved this book! Brings back lots of memories as I used to be a rather big L fan in my teens hahaha. I loved him so much that my friends actually bought me a Death Note notebook (I haven’t written anything (or any names) in it… I think? hahahaha kidding)

I loved the movies too. To be honest I don’t really remember much of it, but I remembered that I find the last movie L Change the World to be underwhelming and kinda bad. So I’m super happy that the novel is very different from the movie (no dramatic explosions or whatever exaggerated scenes). It’s a lot more nuanced, funny and poignant at the same time. The major themes of the story are still the same, but major plot differences. The time frame is to record the last 23 days of L’s life and the novel really captured L’s character growth in the last mission of his life and as a reader, I could feel the significance of the time period – something that the movie failed to deliver.

Psycho Pass is aaaamazing as usual ^^

I’m going to move on to the NO.6 series <3 I’m probably going to slow down my reading speed and savor each and every line. ^^
