Watching people come and go

Feeling somewhat sentimental(?) at the moment. Been reading some of the past comments / emails that I’ve received over the 5 years of blogging and feeling all warm and happy that these people were part of my life in some way or another. It’s amazing feeling when some people said that they felt more motivated when they read my posts or simply sharing some of their experiences and thoughts with me. But people come and go in life.

Throughout the 5 years that I’m here, I could see how people come and go. Of course there are still a few people that remain over the years, but it seems like many have moved on. I know (for sure) that some of them are no longer learning Korean but I hope that the others are still learning Korean somewhere over the other side of the world even though we are no longer in contact. It’s also a little sad how some of the k-language bloggers no longer update their blogs. Blogs come and go, just like people. I just hope that there are still learning Korean, even though they are no longer updating their progress on the blogs.

Sometimes I will meet people and they will be like “huhh you are still learning Korean? Ohh I stopped long ago”. At these times, I feel kinda sad. Everything is so short-lived these days. Kinda feel like I’m left behind when everyone else have moved on. Of course, it’s not a bad thing (that I’m ‘left behind’) but a little sad to see people giving up over the years.

Typed the above a week ago or so. Kinda in a funk right now so yeah….. Till next post!

It feels that this post is somewhat related to my post last month. I also feel sad at my progress in Korean. I keep on making excuses and not actually face the fact that it all comes down to self-discipline. I definitely need to sort my priorities well. Been slacking off a lot. It’s time to wake up and study! (That’s me screaming to my face).

I know how you feel. I’ve been on line for roughly 20 years going back to the early 90s. In that time, chat rooms and message boards where I’ve made friends have come and gone (the friends I made usually gone with them). Sometimes I get sentimental and think about those people and wonder what they’re up to. But, that’s part of life I suppose.

People do come and go. 하지만, “旧的不去新的不来”, 아니에요? Looking on the brighter side, the ones who stay, are truly those who care. But sometimes, a “long lost friend” can bring you more happiness than those who stayed on. 🙂

I know the feeling. I remember going to a message board (actually I still go) and it was so lively. Had some good friends there but now that board is practically empty. Just a handful of people coming every few days and most of the people I was friends with have moved on. I guess it’s just a part of getting older.

Yeah it’s sad to see people lose interest in something/somebody over time. Even though I haven’t been here long I’m glad to see you have such passion for something even though many years has past! I’m glad to say that I have been self studying Korean for almost over a year and a half now. And that I still have big passion for learning Korean, and I hope to achieve your level of kor someday. I hope everyone will keep learning languages! I hope to keep in contact with you over the years still!
