7 In HSK

TOPIK, JLPT, HSK

I love my spontaneous, stationery and language loving geeky friends hahaha.

That or I’m very good at convincing people ?. Because somehow I managed to get two of my friends to be interested in taking the HSK (Chinese proficiency exam) this coming July and while at the bookstore, the three of us bought guidebooks on the spot to study for the exam together hahahahaha. This totally happened out of the blue and it was so random (but so awesome!). Ok I have been thinking of taking the test since last year (and bought a book on sample tests) but somehow I left it aside soon after.

Now I’m super motivated! ??? I’m aiming to take level 6 (the highest) this July. For those who didn’t know, I’m supposedly (?) bilingual and the Chinese language is my Mother tongue. But having learnt it as somewhat a second language in school, I sometimes wonder if I’m a full bilingual. But since I scored decently for my Higher Chinese O levels and given that I’ve been an active reader of Chinese novels / books for years, I always thought that I was kind of above average.

BUT.

Recently, many events have convinced me otherwise. Suddenly, I’m surrounded by people who are really amazing bilinguals and it has been a source of positive motivation for me to improve my Chinese proficiency. I think signing up for HSK is a very good motivation :P. Honestly, I have never thought of taking the exam since I had the impression that it was for foreigners learning the language.

It looks like a fun challenge and having people to do it with me is even better!!

So it looks like I’ll be taking HSK 6 in July, TOPIK II in Oct/Nov (my cert is expiring end of the year) and mayyyyyyyyyyybe JLPT N1 (who am I kidding). Ok this is exciting. It’s not a secret that love proficiency tests hahaha. Not because i love tests per say, but I think it’s a form of motivation and challenge that gets me very hyped up about the language and it’s a good learning process too. I gained a lot of knowledge about random things while reading JLPT and TOPIK passages (which tend to cover all kinds of topics!).

I think I haven’t sound so happy and motivated in my posts for a very long time.

haahahhaha.

Haha I’m not too sure, given that I didn’t learn it as a foreign language (: but I would imagine that it takes a lot of writing practice (keep writing the same characters) and as for tone, it is not that difficult. Need practice and just watch loads of dramas to get the hang of it

Wow it feels just like yesterday when you told us you passed level 6 (again)!
Will take TOPIK again this July and if I fail to get a 6, then I’ll try again in November!
