Yet another milestone in my Japanese learning journey! ^^
Just finished reading another (the second) full length Japanese novel – Symmetry by Honta Tetsuya.
The feeling of reaching the last page was amazing. It felt like I have completed another challenge and that my efforts paid off. Reading in a foreign language is an amazing feeling. What used to be undecipherable symbols now make sense and I can actually enjoy the content without forcing myself to concentrate too much on the language used.
This time I’m too lazy to do two readings, so I just did the slow, detailed one where I’ll look up (almost) every new word that I come across! I’ve used up all the pages in my previous notebook, so I’ve started a new Japanese notebook. hehe.
This novel is actually quite easy to read and the storyline won’t be unfamiliar to those who have seen Strawberry Night, a drama that is kinda based on the novel series. I like it that the novel tells the story differently from the drama, less straightforward and sometimes going against chronological order or based on a different narrative mode. I’ll recommend it for low intermediate learners like me! ^^
I think my reading ability has improved, at the expense of my writing and speaking skills (which are non-existent). I know I keep saying how my goals for Japanese are just to be able to read/listen, but I think I should make an effort to improve on my productive skills too. It may be too late if I decided next time that I want to be fluent in Japanese or something. heh I should revive my Japanese blog. (hahaha I forgot the url…. heol)
As some of you might have seen on my Instagram, my new Japanese grammar dictionary (Korean version) has arrived!!! hehe a detailed review will come later, if there is anyone interested. But for now, I’m happy with it, and I’ve been using it to learn quite a number of N2 grammar points during the weekend. Learnt about 30 so far, but heh who knows how many I can actually remember hahahaha.
Now that I’ve finished シンメトリー、I shall start on a new novel. mm so far the novels I’ve read are those that are remade into dramas/movies, so I kinda know the story already. Not sure if that influenced my reading ability / confidence, so I decided that I shall start on a novel that I have zero idea about. This means I won’t go back to reading 白夜行 yet, so …. 卒業 it will be! Written by 東野圭吾 too. hahaha. My bookshelf is like all Honda Tetsuya and Higashino Keigo. LOL.
