[Review] Foundation Cushions – Sulhwasoo / Pony Effect

I’ve been watching too many beauty youtubers under the guise of practicing my Korean. Actually, not really. The only Korean youtuber that I’m faithfully binge-watching is 씬님 (she’s so darn cool). Other than that, I’ve been watching youtubers in Mandarin Chinese!

Nevertheless, the conclusion is that my wallet is hurting from all those gmarket beauty hauls and what not. Time to be a Beauty Blogger인 척 again hahaha. Seriously, I love reviewing textbooks but I’m stumped at reviewing beauty products.

A good foundation is important. My personal favourites are still liquid foundations (easy to build, good coverage) but sometimes it’s just a bit messy and time-consuming (applying with a sponge). At times, I want something that’s a relatively quick fix and something that I will bring for overseas trips. Hence, foundation cushions come in handy.

I’ve tried IOPE cushions and they were pretty decent. Stopped purchasing them when I decided to switch to liquid foundations. However, I wanted a cushion again (for reasons above) and for the past 1 year or more, I’ve been sticking to Pony Effect cushions.

Been hearing good stuff about Sulhwasoo cushions, so bought one to try! Apparently I bought the series with the highest coverage (goes to show that I never did research before purchasing lol), which was fine by me.

So today’s mini-review will cover the following 3 cushions.

In order: Sulhwasoo Perfecting Cushion Ex No. 15 (Ivory Pink), Pony Effect Defense Longwear Cushion (Natural Ivory), Pony Effect Everlasting Cushion (Rosy Ivory)

Actually I think I’ll focus the review on the first two. When I first bought it, I thought the everlasting cushion made my face a tad too oily in the humid Singapore weather, so I ended up leaving it aside and only using it again when I was overseas during winter. I ended up switching to the Defense Longwear cushion and this is my second one already! I like the Defense longwear one a lot better, although I can’t quite pinpoint the reason anymore lol (this is why I’m not a beauty blogger….)

Here’s a more detailed look at the packaging. I find Pony’s products pretty decent (both in terms of design and quality) for the price, and I actually have quite a few of her products! (Primers, brushes, sponge)

Pony Effect Defense Longwear Cushion (Natural Ivory)

Good: Moisturising but still ok for humid weather. Face doesn’t feel oily after application. Pretty decent scent, not overpowering. Mid-coverage.

mmm: Doesn’t last the whole day, can get a little cakey / clumpy at my nosebridge area (I wear spectacles).

overall: will buy again. It’s my go-to foundation if I’m rushing for time.

Sulhwasoo Perfecting Cushion Ex No. 15 (Ivory Pink)

I had quite high expectations of the cushion given its good reviews online, but I was initially disappointed because the puff that comes with it was soooo hard and made the application super tough. The foundation didn’t go on smoothly and I keep having the puff mark on my face -___-. I ended up using Pony’s puff which was a lotttt better.

Good: Beautiful packaging!! The scent is quite unique. Overall it gives quite a nice glow.

mmm: More coverage compared to the Pony Effect Defense Longwear, but based on the few times I’ve used it thus far, I find that the product can transfer quite easily. Doesn’t go on too well on my nose area, where the skin is more bumpy and uneven. It’s not obvious from far, so it’s fine.

overall: on the fence for this one, given its price tag. Need to use it a few more times, but unlikely to purchase again.

Etude House Personal Color Palette Warm Tone Eyes

I’m terrible with eyeshadows, but yet I’m actually quite adventurous with colors 😛 I like warm tones, especially reddish eyeshadows (haha don’t ask me why).

The ones in this Etude House palette are pretty decent and suitable for daily use.

I actually like how it’s less pigmented than some of the Western brands I’ve used, so it’s easily applied and yet aren’t too “loud”. My Missha brushes don’t work every well with these shadows, so my preference is to use my finger instead LOL.

Thus far, I tend to use the colors on the left more often 🙂 Based on my not-so-pro opinions, I find the shadows more powdery than creamy, but nevertheless still good to work with!

I used to have a Beauty Blogger인 척 category, but deleted it since there’s only one post. LOL. Do you think I should revive the category?

Or maybe I should stick to reviewing textbooks instead hahaha.

SHANA i thought you had perfect skin from the pictures. so i’m assuming the cushions enhance the look of your skin rather than hide imperfections.
