[OPEN THREAD] Musings in the train

Hello all!

I’m blogging in the mrt train as usual ^^ Most of you arent commenting anymore ): Sometimes I wonder if you guys are just 눈팅ing (눈팅 – 댓글 안 하고 그냥 보고 간다 read and leave without commenting) or if you guys have moved on to other interests / blogs or if my blog has become more boring.

I’m fully aware that this blog has become less Korean study and more random rubbish o.o

I guess that’s because instead of studying, Im more of using Korean. Whether it is to read a novel or occasionally speaking it. And there’s really nothing to write about that.

I think the only way for me to show some major improvement is 1) work in a korean company 2) move to korea for a period of time 3) get a Korean bf (only because a bf is someone you are likely to spend more time with compared to friends)

1. No way.
2. No money.
3. Im in my loner world.

Yup so im kinda contented to just keep things as it is.

This train ride is so long.

How are you guys and what have you been doing for Korean? Pls feel free to share ok!!

Pls let me know what you want me to blog about. Ask me anything that you are curious. Pls dont be rude ok

I’m always rereading your posts on novels and textbooks! Aha! It’s getting unhealthy to the point where I actually remember what you said! But I love reading what you have to say on books, be it Korean, Chinese or Japanese! Aha

But- but- but! I am actually enjoying every post! I find it gets more and more interesting! I always end up erasing my comments~ 맨날 이 블로그 읽어요~ 특히 그 교과서나 소설의 포스트들~ 재미있어서 그래요~

One more reader here who enjoys your posts! even if they are not related to Korean or Japanese studies 🙂 Do keep on writing!

If you don’t mind, perhaps you could write a little about your interactions with your Korean friends? Just wondering what would you typically chat about, any special barriers or issues which you need to be mindful of etc..

I’m quite a silent reader…. 😡 hehe but I’m most of the time reading your updates from my inbox :O

but just curious, why is it no way for (1)? Is it the cultural differences? My Korean skills are kinda drifting away cos I lack time and discipline in self-studying 🙁 and am still thinking of what career opportunities there could be if I really master this language soon.

haiz those comments D: I don’t know whether it will make me money or not (not yet) but it’s sad that people only consider the monetary benefits when doing something.

Another reader who always reads but doesn’t comment, simply because I don’t usually and feel content just to read 🙂 so please do continue with your posts – they’re both interesting and informative. I especially like to see what books/mags/kdrama you’re into and any good web manhwa on naver or elsewhere. Thanks 🙂

lol I blogged about sunscreens last time because that’s what I wanted to write about. don’t feel the need to be limited with your posting. post about whateve ryou want. it’s YOUR BLOG. it’s an outlet for you to express yourself. I think it’s more about “enjoying korean” than purpose try to do what is supposed to lead to “improving your korean.” I really believe “enjoying” will get much further. Maybe you can get more proactive while enjoying korean like looking up stuff.
what do you mean no money? I thought you were balling with all these textbooks you buy from 2 chois lol.

Me too! I’m usually just a silent reader. Actually, I have been stuck in beginner level cos I always feel so tired after work that I don’t really feel like studying. So my only source of exposure to Korean is just watching Korean dramas. Oh, please do a blog post regarding your hair cut experience in the Korean salon in Singapore if you can. Thank you. ^^

I have read your blog for at least a year but only commented once or twice. I am mostly a silent reader. I found your TOPIK textbook reviews really useful a while back. Mostly I follow you because you are the most advanced Korean as a foreign language person I know of on the Internet, and I find it interesting and inspiring to see how far you have come. Actually I am only TOPIK 3 after 3 years living in Korea, I narrowly missed level 4 this summer; so I am a rather lame language learner. I hope to pass 4 next month or in November.

Recently I have started a cooking class in Korean and did a pottery class a few months ago. I found that really useful to improve my listening and speaking skills. Maybe there are some kind of community groups for Koreans in Singapore you could join…

      Hi Chris!

Thanks for reading! Living in Korea is really like a booster to language proficiency! Just try to use it more often 😀 But I guess most people would want to speak to you in English 😛 Those classes sound interesting. Good luck for TOPIK!!

I got a bit stagnant in my Korean learning journey recently as I didn’t have the time previously to study the language religiously. I am at the stage whereby i am comfortable with colloquial Korean but I want to advance more beyond conversational level. I wanted to go for the new TOPIK 2 exam but I was a little hesitant due to the difficulty of the writing section. I just started out working in a Korean company here in SG so I hope that my Korean language ability will gradually improve as I communicate more with the staffs at the HQ.

I can relate a lot, Shanna. I have plenty of time to keep up with Korean, I just don’t have the concentration or the brain power 🙁 I’m so tired all the time, wahhh. But you shouldn’t feel bad for only studying 30 minutes; it’s been proven that studying a short amount of time every day is better than cramming! I’m gonna try and start scheduling in at least 10 minutes of studying time every day. That’s a lot better than nothing.

Anyways, a long time ago I mentioned that my listening skills are my weakest area, and asked if you could make a post about that. You said yes but I think you forgot ㅋㅋ Maybe you can do that whenever you have time next? 🙂

Another 눈팅-er here. Haha. Currently still studying korean through SKIS, the best alternative beside self-studying (imo). No motivation to self-study until recently I watched 비정상회담 (the foreigners are damn good in Korean) V funny! Highly recommended!
And thank you for introducing the book titled 외국인을 위한 한국어 문법. Both books are gooood! Would like to hear about your experience in having language exchange in Singapore (w Korean). Be it a positive or negative one. Hehe. Cya! (dunno when though)

I haven’t left a comment in so long, but I’m still here. I isut have a bad habit of saying, “Okay I’m gonna leave a comment right after I do this thing,” but never leaving the comment. OTL I actually enjoy these personal posts; they’re fun and interesting. 😀

Oh, I meant to ask for a while, but could you do a full review on the 文型辞典 you use? I’m still unsure on if I should get it soon or not. I’d be getting the all Japanese version, but I think the level and content is the same in both. I haven’t been able to see inside of it and would need to get it online, so pictures of the inside would be so helpful. ^^
