It’s really the little things in language learning that are so precious.
2 years ago or so, I started listening to Home Made 家族, a Japanese group. It was the first group I liked and I listened to it without knowing what they were singing.
Fast forward to now. I ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND.
Understanding the lyrics made me appreciate the song a lot more (:
Are there small things about learning a language that made you happy? Or maybe a time where you were glad you knew Korean(or another lang)?
I find recounting such small moments a big motivation to work harder (: if you are experiencing a bottleneck, think back to the small things that made you happy!

13 February, 2014 at 8:26 PMA couple months ago when I was watching Boys Over Flowers(unsubbed), there was a small joke that 잔디 made it went something like this: (She wanted to apoligize for something she did, but didn’t like 준표 so she tried to make it as slick as possible) *holds out an apple* 사과받으세요.
I laughed for 10 minutes straight. I know it’s not that funny, but the fact that I actually understood the wordplay was what really made laugh, especially since everything else they were saying sounded like gibberish to me. And I despite not liking Kpop I actually have two songs by Big Bang, Bad Boy and Haru Haru. They mean a lot to me, because I heard them when I was still learning hanguel and I kept watching the music video on repeat for about two weeks everyday after I came from school, because they’re so gorgeous. I grew to like those songs even though they arent my style, and now whenever I hear them it reminds me of how hopeful and excited I was to learn Korean.

22 February, 2014 at 9:51 AMahhh yes! I remember that scene hahhaha. I totally understand how those songs will remind you of your love for Korean. Same with me. There are some songs that reminds me of the time I first started learning Korean (: Mine was 와 줘 part 2 by se7en! He was the first artiste I liked!

14 February, 2014 at 1:02 PMFor Korean, whenever I watch EXO Showtime unsubbed I can actually understand more or less 50% of what they are saying, they talk really fast so I can’t understand the other things. Also I got to watch the Taxi Talkshow (?) featuring Sam Hammington and I can understand the same degree.. for the songs also the same. I am having that sense of happiness whenever I had this experience. For Japanese, I’m more into Utada Hikaru and Nakata Yasutaka as well as Japanese songs of K-pop artists, and even though I just began self-studying Japanese, there are some words I understand as a whole, like I can fully understand Perfume’s Polyrhythm and Daijoubanai and the first verse in the chorus of Utada Hikaru’s Beautiful World. XD With all these things, I became more inspired and motivated to study both Korean and Japanese even more.
