#half-assed post.
Is it just me or are people on the Internet getting ruder these days? I don’t run a controversial blog, in fact I have such a “niche blog” that it doesn’t attract many readers, but I still have to deal with rude people sometimes (not on the blog). I usually respond very nicely if you ask me nicely (even if the answer is very googlable). But I have no patience for people who demand answers from me. I hate demanding tones.
Emoticons exist for a reason. Use them if you can’t word your question politely.
And it’s funny how people can’t even introduce themselves properly and the first thing they ask is “Can you teach me Korean/English?” and even a ruder
“I want you to teach me….”. -_-
Yes, I get such requests from Koreans and people learning Korean alike.
I’m perfectly happy to help out if you ask specific questions (and please introduce yourself first), but asking someone to teach you a language is ridiculous.
If you can’t help yourself, sorry I can’t help you too.
Random, but ridiculous and rude people ruin a perfectly good language app / exchange site / forum or what not.
Went to the bookstore today and SO DAMN HAPPY to see my favorite notebooks in stock. hehehe. Bought 4 more and yes this is my collection.
You can go count but to save you trouble, it’s 17 in total.
Yes I’m that crazy. And I seem to have an obsessive compulsive disorder or whatever you call that. I need my things to be neat and orderly. I refuse to write on / write with stationery that I don’t like. LOL.
And yes, I need a new 2013 planner. Maybe I’ll find something next week. I just need a cheap one. In fact, I’ll be super happy if you save on the printing cost and take out all that currency conversions, maps and all sorts of crap that is common in planners. -_-
But yup, I’m anal about such crap and I need something simple and clean and preferably those that I can fill in the dates myself.
It’s funny how the simpler and cleaner the design, the more expensive it is -___-
As you can see, I’m not in the best of moods, so… yup.
The only saving grace is that I’m not outside under the hot sun, and my favorite big bang playlist is on playmode. ^^
mmm that’s a long one for a #half-assed post

11 January, 2013 at 5:47 PMHello, I am AJ. May I check where do you go to get korean books in Singapore? I am currently learning Korean but I would like to get some books to read. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you. 🙂

11 January, 2013 at 8:33 PMLOL, yea, I’m extremely particular about my schedular as well. Ended up getting a ARDIUM planner (its available on gmarket too~). Simple, slick & my favourite indie purple!! Way over my budget @ S$15, but at least it makes me happy XD

11 January, 2013 at 11:39 PMThat’s so strange considering that this is a blog about ‘self-studying…’ :S
Unfortunately nowadays people only form connections so that they don’t have to do their own work. I learned a long time ago that there are people that love you AND people who love the things you do for them. It’s a shame because they have lost a good opportunity to make a good friend in you.
Don’t let the rudeness affect you so, chin up and look at all that you have accomplished. It’s inspirational, impressive and very much appreciated! : )

12 January, 2013 at 12:25 AMI think a lot has to do with people not knowing where to start but that doesn’t give a person an excuse to be rude. There’s a way to go about things more politely and as you said, emoticons exist for a reason.
Jealous of the notebooks! I want some new ones but I don’t know when I’ll get the chance to buy some more. I still have enough for the time being but…notebooks. XD

14 January, 2013 at 3:17 PMYeah I agree ^^ hehe study more and finish your notebooks then you will have a reason to buy more 😛

I really enjoy your blog; it’s a constant source of inspiration for me. I’ve even recently decided to study for the beginning level TOPIK after reading your posts. I just wanted to tell you how much I truly appreciate your blog and all the hard work you put in to it.
감사합니다!

12 January, 2013 at 3:00 AMI agree. How can someone expect someone else to teach them a language when they don’t have time for that? Learning a language is time-consuming and someone who is teaching you properly will not spend all their time on that. They could ask for tips but to ask someone to teach you is rude, in my opinion.
I want your exercise books! 😀 They look so nice and I can just imagine the smell of them.

14 January, 2013 at 3:18 PMthose are my favorite 😛 Won’t think of buying any others.

12 January, 2013 at 9:05 AMOmg I totally know what you mean! I really hate it also. I sent you an email with a question, but now that I think about it, I hope it didn’t sound rude. If it was rude, I’m very sorry :(. Especially this happens a lot on Interpals -_-. I don’t think they understand teaching someone a language is not possible for us, because if it was possible, then we are all be language teachers. I’m also sorry again, I didn’t introduce myself when I first asked a question, so 죄송해요. I guess it’s always hard to find good/genuinely nice people. Let’s just ignore them, and keep being awesome 😀 힘내요~! 🙂
YES! It’s so hard to find a notebook that we like using! Especially planners! It’s so true about the expensive versus simplicity price! Anyways how much did those notebooks cost? They look so much better than those usual spirals!! I want some haha~ 😀 Anyways have a nice day!
hangukdrama
14 January, 2013 at 3:21 PMhahaha no worries at all! In fact, I hope I replied you ><;;; Sometimes I get quite a number of mail and I may miss out on some. hehe dun worry about the introducing yourself part. I was thinking of one of those chatting apps when I wrote that ^^; Those notebooks are around 2 dollars SGD per book.

14 January, 2013 at 10:08 PMOh I’m sure you didn’t see it! I’ll just send another mail again if you don’t mind?? 🙂 ah I see, no wonder it’s so frustrating!
Thanks! I wonder if i can find those in the usa or online

15 January, 2013 at 12:25 PMmm i doubt they sell it in the US. hehe I just saw your email and replied! Sorry I missed it!!

12 January, 2013 at 11:49 AMHi, just dropping in to say that I hope your day is so much better now. I truly appreciate your posts. I love K-Dramas, K-Pop and would love to learn the language. I am learning this on my own. My goal is to take the Topik test someday. Please don’t be discourage. You are appreciated. ^_^

14 January, 2013 at 3:22 PMThanks for reading the blog 😀 😀
Koreanlearner
12 January, 2013 at 5:39 PMPlease don’t let it get to you. When feeling down, think of how many fellow learners come here to find inspiration – many of whom might not be the most active in the comments sections so they might disappear a little – and really enjoy following your journey to being completely fluent in Korean. And so many are looking so much forward to reading your e-book with tips and tricks! The fact that you get such requests, however annoying they are, is just a sign that you’re considered great at Korean ^^ Maybe it’s a general development; I once got to rent a flat before anyone else got to even view it because unlike the first guy who called, I introduced myself when calling rather than starting the conversation “I want to rent your flat!” so perhaps it’s becoming more and more normal even offline…
Enjoy your new exercise books!

12 January, 2013 at 8:55 PMAt least the commenters ask related questions! Sometimes some people just leave spam messages in blog posts that don’t even relate with the topic! >:( Anyway, don’t let those things affect your mood to study. Though if you look at it another way, it could actually mean that people are starting to recognise you as an “expert” in this, which just goes to show how much you inspire the rest of us readers 🙂
hangukdrama
14 January, 2013 at 3:24 PMhehe I wasn’t actually thinking of the blog when I wrote that. It was on other platforms. Everyone here is really nice 😀 And I’m so glad the spam control is kinda getting better now. Hate it when all the spam starts to appear on the blog instead of the spam box.

13 January, 2013 at 11:49 AMI want to play the devil’s advocate. Maybe they are so inspired by the fact that you have learned Korean so well and have read your amazing blog posts and figured “maybe if she helps me I will be able to learn Korean/English just as well as she has.” Maybe they have forgotten their manners but not to be malicious but out of excitement.
The other way to deal with this is to provide private tutoring at exorbitant prices. ㅋㅋ Or slightly less than exorbitant. ㅋㅋㅋ There is nothing wrong with a little side hustle.
hangukdrama
14 January, 2013 at 3:26 PMㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎ that’s an idea. But I can’t imagine myself teaching Korean, or that someone will actually want me as a Korean teacher >,<;;

14 January, 2013 at 11:15 PMI’m also very anal about the stationery and peripherals I use! I uses 6mm lined Muji notebooks. I also don’t understand why the simpler planners cost more… recently saw some cute planners on gmarket where you can fill in your own dates.
hangukdrama
15 January, 2013 at 12:28 PMahhh Muji! Love their stationery! Yup I love those where you can fill it your own dates. Makes it somewhat more personalized!
