14 In Japanese learning journey (:/ Korean learning journey (:

My ‘studying’ routine recently

Inverted commas because I’ve been soo busy with a certain 3 letter word (or more like I have a lot of work but I refuse to do it) that I don’t really have time to spare for languages. But sometimes (like now), I’m taking an escapade from reality and when I do, I study Japanese. sorry Korean The reason why I spend more time on Japanese is because it’s my much weaker language and I need more ‘formal’ time for it.

I have been slotting Korean study on the go or before I go to bed. Or before class, during class, and in between breaks. I usually read up Korean news on the apps (introducing them soon), watch unsubbed clips such as news etc. I avoid subbed stuff now. Cannot be too lazy and reliant on them.

In some sense, I’m more aware of news ongoing in Korea compared to Singapore. ><;; Good or bad, I guess it depends on how you view it? I’m stubborn like that. I stubbornly want to do what I like to do.

I realized that I can easily watched unsubbed movies these days. 😀 I am no longer aware that I’m actually watching it unsubbed, which I consider a good thing. And I don’t need to concentrate to be able to understand ^^ yay.

I’m greedy. I hope to be fluent 3 years later for Japanese 😀 And then I’ll start on a non Asian language.. probably Russian. I know it’s very simplistic, but if I manage to learn a new language every 4 years.. how many languages can I learn to speak in this lifetime? hahahaha.

Languages on my list: Russian, Spanish

Okay, I’ll be super content if I can be fluent in two foreign languages actually lol. Time to work harder for Japanese 😛 Do you think I’ll be fluent one day? hahahahaha

Have a good weekend!!!!

Hello Shana! I love reading your blog, it’s so informative especially for a Korean language self-learner! ♥

Uh, by chance, are you majoring in language studies?

      thanks so much!! ^^ Urm I’m majoring in something related but not language studies. In any case, Korean is simply a hobby that has nothing to do with my major ^^;

Thai is actually a very beautiful tonal language and i think it’s worth the while spending the time understanding the rich culture behind the language and the country itself, just like Japanese or Korean or any other language. Maybe the sounds of the language at first will put you off, but after you learn the meaning of words and sentences, you will realize that it’s actually a very gentle and warm language compared to others. Sadly, most people i know just dismiss the language before anything else or just make fun of it.haha.it’s like hearing people say,” Learn Korean? no way..people will think i’m a Kpop fan..”

    Hi, Shanna!
I want to say that you’re just great! you inspire so many people)
Always giving us so much useful advice. Thanks to you I’ve registered on “Language-8” and even think about running a blog))
I’m also so happy that you are considering learning Russian one day, because it’s my native language and it would be really interesting to have a look at it from the learner’s point of view (hope you’ll write about all of your language learning journeys).

Thanks Maria!! ^^ if you start a blog, drop me a link! Just curious, are there similarities between Russian and Korean? I know so many Russians who are learning the language that I start to think that there’s a particular reason for that xD

I think there are no similarities at all 😀 Definitely not in the grammar structures, and as for the vocabulary, sometimes 아랐어 awfully reminds me хорошо, and they even can be used in similar contexts. But as far as I know these words are not related))
To tell the truth, the most popular languages in Russia are English and Chinese and I don’t really know many people learning Korean, at least in my city. So you’re lucky finding them:)

P.S. If I start a blog I promise I’ll give you a link, but I’m not sure it’ll be too soon.

You will be. You have such a good talent for learning languages. As for me,learning one additional language beside my native language is already hard for me ㅜㅜ.
