12 In Japanese learning journey (:/ N2 Journey

MOZU

Visited Kinokuniya the other day and when I beelined for the Japanese section, my eyes were immediately attracted to a certain book.

With him on the cover, hard not to xD hehe some of you may recognise him as Kikuta from Strawberry Night (don’t remember his real name ><)!!!! Didn't buy it immediately (haha not an impluse buyer) but it remained on my mind. Decided to check out the drama and OMGGGG ITS SUPER GOOOOOOOOOD. The disclaimer is that you have to like that genre. The dark, thriller, twisty tales. I love such Japanese dramas. Think Bloody Monday but a potentially darker version? I realised that my taste for Japanese dramas and novels (especially novels) tend to skew heavily on the thriller and mystery side. All the novels that I've purchased on my own all have murders in them... ><;;; As such my vocabulary is pretty skewed too lolol. Anyway I ended up going to the bookstore another day to purchase it. Was a good decision too, it cheered me up SIGNIFICANTLY cos i had a bad day. D: Super happy cos I'm finally trying out other authors outside of Honda Tetsuya and Higashino Keigo lololol. But sorry cannot break out of the genre. >< I love how the book starts differently from the drama. It's like having a more detailed perspective! Awweeeesome. Thought it is going to be super difficult to read but somehow i am managing ok. Hahahaha must be the familiarity with the vocabulary oops. Sooooooo hungry i wanna flip and die.

just get a simple one (teen novel or maybe romance – easier vocab) and start reading! 😀 You won’t be able to read one unless you start. There will be a lot of unfamiliar words at first, but you will get better with time ^^

I am currently reading ビブリア古書堂 by 三上円. There is 5 volumes in the series so far and I am at volume 3. It is not about murder but mysteries that are connected to old/antique books. Like you, I was only reading Higashino Keigo books because his writing style is just so awesome and easy to understand, but I really recommend ビブリア! I love the main character because she loves books too. And since you love books too, I am sure you will like this series!

Heard of this series! Are the books better than the drama? I tried watching the drama and was totally put off by it :/ can’t decide whether i just dislike the drama or the general story doesnt appeal to me

I watched the first 2 episodes because of Akira hahaha, but I have to say that they made a huge mistake casting Gouriki Ayame as Shinokawa Shioriko. I am not saying that her acting sucks or anything but the character in the book is totally different from what was portrayed in the drama. I dislike the character in the drama but totally love the character in the novels.

In any case, you can try reading the first volume! I got my 5 volumes at Kishun and I think Volume 1 is still available!

Haphazard and all over the place? To be very honest, when I first started learning Japanese, it was not out of genuine interest. I ended up having a love-hate relationship with the language during the several times that I learnt it and relearnt it and relearnt it again. lol. I think I learnt hiragana / katakana and the basics like 3-4 times? The last re-start was particularly painful as it felt really demotivating that I forgot what I learnt and it was a struggle to start from the beginning again. I can’t remember what sparked the interest in Japanese (or when it was) but suddenly I learn to have a genuine interest in the culture and language. I started to read more and found a learning style that suits me and it all progressed from there.

It must be almost efforess learning all the sino crime scene vocabulary since you’re so similar with them from your native language and in korean. All you had to do is learn he readi g which is most likely similar to the Chinese or korean readings which is makes it that much easier 🙂

For me with learnin korean I have an easier time learning and remembering sinowords and for the words that have no chinese character “behind” it i have no crutch so I have to really learn it from different contexts. I love my shortcuts aNd crutches
