12 In Japanese learning journey (:

Maybe it’s possible…

Maybe it’s possible that a few years down the road, I’ll be quite proficient in Japanese and Korean 😀

My relationship with Japanese has always been kind of ambiguous. I started learning the language with the wrong kind of reason (to me), and kinda because it was similar to Korean. I didn’t have any strong liking for the language and was just kind of ambivalent towards it. Perhaps that explains why I gave up on it a few times (voluntarily or due to lack of time).

But now, I know that the language is here to stay in my life. ^^ I can’t really explain why, but I just know!

Pretty happy to add a new language to my life and I really look forward to learning more (: It’s like I’ve opened the doors to a whole new worldview again.

Spending a quiet Saturday and working on both Korean and Japanese. I’m like alternating between doing Japanese / Korean related stuff. hehe. For Japanese, I’m happily reading my favorite novel (白夜行)and I’m already at pg 40 😀 😀 Being able to read in a foreign language is a super super satisfying accomplishment. Do you guys feel the same way? ^^

The joy of language learning. I think that’s what I really want to share in my blog. ❤

    That’s great Shanna!

Yeah! I feel the same as you, “Being able to read in a foreign language is a super super satisfying accomplishment” which is the main reason I’m into learning foreign languages.

by the way, how long have you been learning Japanese?

    Good luck!

I like the feeling of studying many languages as the same time. Sometimes in one night, I just alternate between Korean and Chinese. The alternation can make us feel more interested and excited while learning languages.

I studied French in high school for the complete wrong reasons (so I could go on a school trip to France, hah!) Needless to say I didn’t commit myself well enough to speaking and learning conjugations to be an effective conversationalist or writer. But I did really love reading French. I can read novels in French easily and took a page out of your book and decided to read books written in French on learning Chinese so I can practice two languages at once!

Now reading Chinese novels for me is still an uphill battle but I’m getting better. Chinese I love speaking and writing but am not as good at reading, so the opposite of French! Finishing my first short story in Chinese was awesome and I look forward to tackling a novel.

That’s pretty cool! 😀 Are there a lot of books in French that are about learning Chinese? ^^ Reading in Chinese takes a lot of time and practice, you will get there! ^^

Why’d you write the meaning for Meibutsu? Is it different from the Chinese meaning ?

Silly question: are the stories for 白夜行 and 幻夜 related? I saw them together at a bookstore and their covers seem similar but idk.

And yeah! When I do other things in Japanese, the sense of accomplishment is nowhere near as what I get out of finishing a novel.

i also wondered!!!! I think they are sister stories of some sort?? hahaha not too sure. 幻夜 was the second book of the author that I tried to read (in the translated Chinese version). But I found the two stories to be similar in quite some ways and at that point I was like “erm… is that the style of the author??!” now that I think about it, it’s probably kinda related. Not sure though 😛
