learning korean through entertainment news

As the title suggests, I will be introducing my favourite method of studying korea these days. I realised that I like to change my studying patterns very often (it was studying through novels the other time, remember?)

I don’t mean just reading entertainment news this time, but WATCHING them too! A few days ago, I found a great site that offers loads of juicy entertainment news. ^^

Y-STAR

Don’t worry if you can’t follow the entire video. The best part of the site is that the written report itself consists of all the dialogues in the video!! What the broadcaster say, the real interview iteself.. everything is recorded down. I printed out some of my favourite news and you can follow the video while reading it.

So in essence, it’s like a script. How good can things can? (: it’s perfect for korean learners to practice their listening skills. and enjoy good entertainment at the same time.

here’s a screenshot of one of my fav videos. There’s subtitle at the bottom of the video, so you can follow the interview with ease. What’s more, at the right hand side, there’s a tab (내용보기 – contents) where you can have the entire transcript of the video, complete with broadcaster dialogue etc.

I hope you will enjoy the videos too while studying ~

재밌게 보면서 공부하세요 ^^

Wow I love this idea once I found your site. Fantastic but I don’t know enough Korean yet. The second link no longer works and I’ve been trying to figure out from y-star’s site how to do this. Would you be able to provide a new link or possibly where I could find this news player on their website?

    Thanks!

Hi, i just realised their site underwent alot of changes. technically, you should be able to access ‘Star news’ from their menu bar on the main site to search for news but strangely, it doesn’t work for me.

they have a mini player for each news, so you have to search for the news first ^^

Once I got to the main site, a pop up video stream opened automatically and started playing commercials haha and now it’s playing 2NE1’s performance at 2009 music awards. ><

do let me know if the 'Star News' link work for you! (:

        hangukdrama,

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried IE 6, IE 8 and Firefox but no luck getting the more advanced player to appear. As for the buttons near the top I too couldn’t get them to work. Arghhh….Looked like a great tool.

I’ll have to ask one my family members who live in korea see if they have any better luck. Looked very promising for when I listen to Korean to have the korean script along with it.
