[Korean Restaurant Review] 동방홍 (Dong Bang Hong)

With the increasing number of Korean restaurants in Singapore, it’s getting harder for most to know whether they are authentic or not. Most people will think of Jang Shou Korean BBQ, Ju Shin Jung, Bibigo and the k-foodies will also know of  kko kko nara, 2D1N etc. Among all these names, Dong Bang Hong is one of the lesser known restaurants. But if you are craving for a good bowl of Jjajangmyeon (자장면), this is THE place you should go.

In fact, they serve a wide variety of Korean-style Chinese food that it will definitely suit the palate of many Singaporeans who may still be cautious about trying out Korean food.

Banchan (side dishes) is simple, but delicious. You can dip the onion slices into the black bean sauce, and woah, it’s definitely hot (it’s like the same feeling of having too much wasabi!)

 

The most delicious 탕수육!! Even better than the ones I had in Korea. Probably because I only had them in food delivery and never in a proper restaurant XD

We ordered the large size at $37. Can feed around 4-5 people! The smaller size is at $27 if I’m not wrong.

Yummm! The sauce isn’t too sweet and the pork tastes damn nice!

 

STAR OF THE DAY! I have been craving 자장면 (black bean paste noodle) like madddd after rewatching Fantasy Couple for the nth time.

The real jjajangmyeon noodles should be like this, thick and chewy. If you went to places that serve you JJM in RAMYEON noodles, you are getting cheated. I’ve been to a few places in Singapore that did that and I was DAMN DISAPPOINTED. $11

I’m sorry I don’t know what this is called in English, but it’s 짬뽕 (jjamppong). Not very spicy, but refreshing 😀 Some kind of seafood noodles in spicy broth?

I’m usually not a fan of Korean style fried rice, cos I find it a little too oily for my liking. But Dong Bang Hong does it really well and you eat it by mixing the black sauce together with the rice. YUMS. Thumbs up! $12 if I remember correctly. Not too sure!

The food we ordered was enough to serve around 4-5 people! ^^

The ambience of the place is really nice and the seats are spaced out, so you won’t feel too crowded. Went there on a weekend evening and I think it’s better to make a reservation in advance. (The staff speaks English) I think we were the only Singaporean customers there, everyone was Korean! So that’s another sign of the authenticity of the food!
