I think I am almost reaching the stage where I can proudly proclaim that Korean is my third language! ^^ The definition of ‘knowing a language’ varies according to the individual. For me, I don’t like to claim that I know a language unless I can converse with relative ease and confidence. And that I can write, read, listen well. Basically, to be competent in all the 4 areas of language. Additionally, knowledge of the culture is important to me too. Hence, you can tell that I have a strict definition xD
I would always say that ‘I’m learning Korean’, but recently, I think I am gaining the confidence to tell people that ‘I know Korean’. I’m mighty proud of the fact, don’t ask me why! 😀
Korean is the only thing that I can really put all my efforts into and enjoy the entire process of learning. Perhaps it has got to do with the fact that it’s not something I study in school. Will Korean be less enjoyable if it was something examinable? I doubt so actually. heh
Most of my exclamations are in Korean and I can think in Korean (but I don’t count in Korean!!). Many people have told me that I don’t feel Singaporean and I’m secretly pleased. 😀 And my Korean friends told me that talking to me doesn’t feel like talking to a foreigner 😀
I hope I don’t sound like I’m bragging >,< Just wanna share my happiness here~! ^^
The exam period is nearing but I’m going to study Korean for awhile now! I’ve found a new learning resource. More on that another day!
