Korean is a beautiful language

Being a linguistic student, I know you can’t say that one language sounds more educated/sophisticated over another. But that doesn’t stop me from feeling that Korean is a beautiful language. When I read certain phrases/sentences, I find that beautiful ideas are expressed so aptly in the language that no translation will ever bring out its beauty to the same extent. ^^

I’m reading a short story in the Yonsei Reading Book 6. The title is 사람과 사람 사이 written by 법정. I’m not sure if this can be found on the internet, but if you managed to find it, do read it. It talks about what is a real, sincere friendship and about relationships in general. I’m too lazy to summarize, but I’m awed.

진정한 만남은 상호간의 눈뜸이다. 영혼의 진동이 없으면 그건 만남이 아니라 한때의 마주침이다.

Did a search on naver and found the whole article!!! ^^ For those who are interested, click here

Even when it’s translated properly into English, the phrases loses it’s nuance and that ‘something’. I guess it’s just the emotion that is passed on to the reader.

It’s how I feel about some classic korean songs. Translated into English, it comes off as corny and just …. less meaningful.

after reading the title of this post, i already thought of what would say in the comments section. I thought of starting it with “Being a linguistics student, I can’t say that one language sounds better / prettier than others, but I have to agree that I also find Korean simply beautiful…”
Now, can you just imagine my shock when I scrolled down to start reading this post??? :p
