I just wrote a movie review in korean on my korean blog and I just want to share my opinions here.
Verdict: It’s really bad. to the extent that I was so bored and kept wishing that the movie will end early
It’s really not anyone’s fault. The Harry Potter books were written in such great detail that to take out a few scenes here and there will render any movie adaptation a chaos. Every scene contributes to another and they are all linked. For those who have not read the books, they will sure be puzzled and confused as the story progresses. The first 2 movies were more successful as the books are relatively thin, making a movie adaption possible.
To call the Half Blood Prince a movie adaption is inaccurate. It’s more like ‘selecting some scenes to act out’ kind of thing. I don’t feel the gripping sense of anticipation.. or any other feelings that I usually associate with watching a good movie.
Not all things at bad though. I particulary enjoy Lav Lav and Won Won’s love sideline XD And the first scene where the cafe waitress is flirting with Harry. That was hilariously good.
It’s just a ‘habit’ that I’ve fallen into. Once a new HP movie is released, I will watch it. Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows are the 2 HP books that I enjoyed the most.
Let’s hope that the finale will be better.

28 July, 2009 at 7:45 AMi thought the movie was better than the book personally, at least the movie had action in it. I really love the beginning how they had a flashback of harry in the fifth film with the professor while those reporters and photographers were taking their picture. People tend to forget how they disliked the sixth book at first. I thought yates did an excellent job on making a plot-less book into a decent movie.
