Happy Sunday: me & my Languages

Happy Sunday!! ^^ For some strange reason, I feel happy and at peace today. Decided to set aside school work and do things that I like today! Which means today is a day for me and my languages 😀 Went out for lunch~ and for the first time in ages, I now have beer in my fridge ㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎ I think that explained why I’m so happy!

I’m using the book an integrated approach to intermediate Japanese (Korean version) and long story cut short, I recommend this book. Highly. One of my favorite so far.

One of the HUGE STACK of Japanese magazines Amber passed to me 😛 Yay, I now have loads of reading material offline too. I’m too lazy to change magazines, so I have been using this for the past.. month. 😛 And I need to clean my room. Don’t understand why there are white specks of dust on the magazine already. I swore I read this like everyday….. ><

Really feel a sense of accomplishment when I read chunks of the interviews with Arashi and understand them!!! ^^; In some sense I feel like I’m progressing faster with Japanese compared to Korean, maybe because I can skip pass the stages of ‘why is this language structured in this way???’ and there are so many similarities between the two languages. So in some sense (as of now) I’m learning an alternative structure in a different language. ^^

Not sure if you guys have seen, but if you are following the Facebook Page, you will have seen that I’m organizing a second meetup in Singapore! 😀 Feel free to join us, the only condition is that you are interested in Korean or learning Korean? hahaha. People of all levels are welcome. And all ages. The RSVP list is around 40 already!!! omg. I need to find a venue tonight ><;; hehe we are going to try out a new place! The other restaurant was good (we had the whole 2nd floor to ourselves) but the food was really slow. D:

I think some people are interested in the meetup but feel awkward that they don’t know anyone here. It’s true that many of us have met up before (in the meetups that I’ve organized) but I’ve seen the list and there are many new people this time too! And the whole point is to make friends, so don’t be shy!! 😀

wow this is such a long entry ^^;; okay shall study Japanese now and mull over the venue issue tonight~~~

Having come from the other way around, Japanese before Korean. I definitely think I progressed a lot quicker in Korean than in Japanese. Both because of similarities, and also, just knowing how to self study more effectively I think.

    Hi,
I’m an intermediate Japanese student. My books on kanji and grammar always have Japanese and then English, Chinese and Korean translations. I always end up looking to the hangul blocks and comparing them to the Japanese part, even if I can’t read hangul. Something like 満車, 満員, 不満. And when looking at the Korean words and the part corresponding to 満 always has the same sound.
I started wondering if it would be a good idea to start learning Korean and take a beginners class on it, just to check the hangul and pronunciation. And then move on learning both, of if it would probably just hinder my Japanese and not progress at all? I know it ultimately depends on me, but I was just wondering how you’d see it. ^^

Hello!! 😀 Heh you are right about what you observed, 満 is 만 in Korean xD Literally ㅁ(m) ㅏ(a) ㄴ(n). haha. I think if you are comfortable in Japanese, try taking the beginners class! I think that once you reach a certain standard in Japanese, learning both languages at the same time can actually help you improve in both languages. Try getting books where they teach Korean in Japanese 😛 That is what I’m doing right now (the opposite) and I feel that I’m learning loads in both languages~!

Oh, that literally? I had no idea it was so close!
I think I’ll give it a go then. As long as I manage my time it should be alright. Thank you so so much! :D 頑張ろうよ!
