Korean-English language exchange meetup in Singapore! :D

Yet another meetup! :D I smartly didn’t realize that it was F1 weekend (all the race cars and road blockages) and held the meetup in City Hall. Needless to say, there was a hugeee crowd! Didn’t have much space to move around in the restaurant, but glad everyone was a good sport about it ^^ Some photos are mine but most are credited to Aloysicus! ^^

Making the Koreans do 자기소개 again lolol. I shall try something else next time, maybe. xD

Happy faces :D

Before this meetup, many of them do not knew each other. But we all made new friends. :D

Some had already left but we decided to take a group shot anyway!

Some of us stayed on for 2차 and we walked to the riverside and ended up in McDonalds! XD Super fun with the usual crowd!

This meetup is open to all who are in Singapore and are learning Korean / is Korean. ^^ It’s just a fun and relaxing session where we all gather to make new friends, chat in English / Korean and basically have fun. It’s also a casual meetup session for people who read my blog. It’s nice to get to know all the people who have supported my blog and learning journey!! It is not a formal session to learn Korean / English etc. So please don’t come here expecting to learn Korean ><;

If you are interested in joining our next meetup, LIKE the facebook page! Updates will be posted there :D

Happy Sunday: me & my Languages

Happy Sunday!! ^^ For some strange reason, I feel happy and at peace today. Decided to set aside school work and do things that I like today! Which means today is a day for me and my languages :D Went out for lunch~ and for the first time in ages, I now have beer in my fridge ㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎ I think that explained why I’m so happy!

I’m using the book an integrated approach to intermediate Japanese (Korean version) and long story cut short, I recommend this book. Highly. One of my favorite so far.

One of the HUGE STACK of Japanese magazines Amber passed to me :P Yay, I now have loads of reading material offline too. I’m too lazy to change magazines, so I have been using this for the past.. month. :P And I need to clean my room. Don’t understand why there are white specks of dust on the magazine already. I swore I read this like everyday….. ><

Really feel a sense of accomplishment when I read chunks of the interviews with Arashi and understand them!!! ^^; In some sense I feel like I’m progressing faster with Japanese compared to Korean, maybe because I can skip pass the stages of ‘why is this language structured in this way???’ and there are so many similarities between the two languages. So in some sense (as of now) I’m learning an alternative structure in a different language. ^^

Not sure if you guys have seen, but if you are following the Facebook Page, you will have seen that I’m organizing a second meetup in Singapore! :D Feel free to join us, the only condition is that you are interested in Korean or learning Korean? hahaha. People of all levels are welcome. And all ages. The RSVP list is around 40 already!!! omg. I need to find a venue tonight ><;; hehe we are going to try out a new place! The other restaurant was good (we had the whole 2nd floor to ourselves) but the food was really slow. D:

I think some people are interested in the meetup but feel awkward that they don’t know anyone here. It’s true that many of us have met up before (in the meetups that I’ve organized) but I’ve seen the list and there are many new people this time too! And the whole point is to make friends, so don’t be shy!! :D

wow this is such a long entry ^^;; okay shall study Japanese now and mull over the venue issue tonight~~~

1st Korean-English meetup in Singapore! :D

yay, after months of procrastination, I finally set up another meetup session! The first time was just among k-learners in Singapore, today, we had Koreans joining us too!! :D Thanks to those who have brought their friends along~! Just came back from the meetup and I’m 멘붕ing as usual, but I had loads of fun. I’m no good at hosting events, but everyone was a good sport ^^ Thanks guys~!

Met at the mrt station and suddenly everyone just formed a circle. So we started doing one round of self introduction. Kinda funny :P

I think people stared at us :D

At the restaurant! It was a casual dinner meetup and everyone was free to mingle around.

Food! ^^

People having fun mingling around.

I kinda forced the Koreans to do a self introduction ^^

It’s almost 2am in the morning so I’m incoherent now. Just going to finish this up so I can press the PUBLISH button tomorrow! Hope everyone had fun! I had a good time catching up with some friends and meeting new people! ^^

But really 정신 없었어요. ㅋㅋ

1st Korean – English Language Meetup in Singapore

HAHA. I’m such a procrastinator that everytime I organize an event, it will always be ‘first’. Technically it is.

Anyway A VERY LAST MIN meetup. Going to have a casual dinner on Friday in either city hall / bugis / tanjong pagar. Venue is left like this because I can’t predict the number of people who are going at the moment.

It will be a casual dinner among Singaporeans (by that, I mean people in Singapore..) and Koreans in Singapore! I’m not sure who will turn up, but let’s just have dinner together.

Day: 31th August (THIS FRIDAY)

Time: 7.30pm to 10.30pm

Where: Meet at 7.20pm at Tanjong Pagar MRT. We are going to the Talent Cafe

RSVP: Facebook event page HERE

I’m not going to entertain RSVPs here. Unless you don’t have Facebook.

Feel free to bring a +1 or + 2 and if you have Korean friends, please bring them along!!!

All updates will be on the Facebook page. Venue will be updated accordingly.

Hope it will be fun :D

Meetup #01.1 – Frog Leg Porridge/Claypot dinner

Following an amusing conversation during our last meetup, we have decided to organise the above outing! ^^ It’s not really our ‘official’ 2nd session, just a dinner to relax and bond (: Please feel free to RSVP either on facebook or through a comment on this post!

Date: 12 Feb 2011 (sat)
Time: 7pm (to be confirmed)
Meeting place: Aljunied MRT station

I’m really glad that everyone had a good time during our 1st meetup but I didn’t manage to have a chance to talk much to a few people. Hopefully we can get to know each other much better soon! (:

Our 2nd official session should be on the following weekend instead. Details will be out once I’ve discussed with the other admins!

Seoul In Sing’ – a successful 1st meetup!

It’s 1am now and I’m really really tired after a long day! But it was a wonderful and awesome day as we had our 1st official session for our korean-english language exchange meetup :D
I’m glad to finally meet creativityjapanese and starxblinded who I’ve been corresponding with online. (: It was a great get-together and all of us had loads of fun.

Lunch at crystal jade was good and the Koreans got to experience our way of celebrating Chinese New Year/설날, which includes yusheng and other chinese dishes. We bonded even more during coffee session afterwards (: Some of us stayed on and went to MBS to walk around and had dinner in marina square!

We learnt alot about each other’s cultures and it was a good time to clear queries / things that we have been curious about etc. ^^

p.s. I’m the photographer so I’m not in the pic! ^^

For more pics, please visit our facebook page! We’ll be planning a second meetup very soon :D Details will be posted on this blog and the fb page once it’s out!

p.p.s i’m really uninspired to blog so forgive the bad writing!

Meetup #01 – CNY lunch

yay! Details for our 1st meetup is out and we’re going to have a CNY lunch (with yusheng)! Spaces are limited as we are constrained by the table size (12pax) 안녕하세요~! ^^

We’ll start our first meetup with CNY celebrations. ^^ We’re going to have Lo Hei (yusheng) at Crystal Jade Kitchen. Their table size is 12pax so we are going to limit the lunch to 12 people. We’re also keeping our 1st meetup small to make sure everyone is comfortable with each other (:

RSVP asap and we’ll be making the reservations very soon. Most of our korean friends aren’t on FB so we’ll be msging them separately. Spaces are really limited ^^

Date: 5th Feb 2011 (sat)
Time: Around 12pm (to be confirmed)
Venue: Crystal Jade Kitchen @ Ngee Ann City
Price: around $20-25/pax

We’ll probably move to another venue for coffee in the afternoon, those who are free are welcome to stay on and mingle! For those who can’t make it for lunch, perhaps you can come for coffee in the afternoon!

I know not everyone uses Facebook, thus I’ll be posting up details of future meetups on this blog too. You can RSVP here too. However, if you use FB, please RVSP there! ^^

Seoul In Sing’ : Korean language exchange meetup (Singapore)

YAY! ^^ We finally have a name for our meetup group! :D Pretty apt I think, seeing how it will hopefully become a community for Koreans living here and also us Korean learners. A place that reminds us of our favorite city in Korea.

Visit our facebook page HERE

I hope that this will provide a chance for Korean learners who really want to learn more about Korean culture and also practice speaking Korean. Speaking is a really important part of learning a language but yet, alot of us do not have the chance or people to talk to ^^ I really wished I knew about such meetup groups when I first started learning Korean. My speaking proficiency developed much later than the other skills. ):

That being said, I hope those who are interested can ‘like’ the page and hopefully we can have our first official session before Chinese New Year. ^^ It will be a great get-together.
We’re still thinking whether facebook or those meetup sites will be a easier way to organise our sessions. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

Just a note: We welcome ALL who are learning Korean – don’t worry if you are still a beginner! We all have to start somewhere right ^^
