Got a sneak preview of the first ever Caffebene in Singapore which is slated to open on Nov 18 2015 and it’s like being back in Korea again – highest praise I can give. ♥
Previously blogged about visiting Caffebene in Korea and I’m glad to say that the food, ambience, service in the SG outlet are of really very good quality (whether compared to other K-style cafes here or in Korea). I’m actually very surprised by how good the food and drinks are and I hope they will stay that way!!
For a summary on recommended menu items, scroll to the bottom~!
The interior and seats are very cozy and apparently they would be having an Al fresco dining area next time too! I love how the tables are spaced apart, and not cramped. This is very important since it sucks to keep hearing the next table’s conversation together with yours.
You can’t talk about a Korean cafe without talking about bingsus. There’s quite a good selection here and I loved how they have it in 2 sizes! The prices are not cheap, but you the quality is top-notch so I’ll happily pay.
My favourite bingsu is not in the above picture but it’s the 강추 (strongly recommended) item – Strawberry Bingsu!!
4 reasons why it’s so damn good:
- the serving of red beans is generous, and it’s really smooth and not too sweet
- THE GELATO.
- finely shaved ice
- the generous serving of strawberries, good ones that are not sour
I’ll come here just for the gelato. I love how everything is really good quality, since most places tend to scrimp on things like red bean and ice cream quality.
(photo is in black and white, so go to the cafe and see for yourself!)
LOOK AT HOW GENEROUS THEY ARE.
This is even better than most of the strawberry bingus I had in Korea – and I had quite a few!
They sell a number of gelato flavours separately too, and they are a must-try and if you are looking for a take-out dessert, get this.
Toasts / Bread 토스트
Thick toasts are also a common menu in k cafes. They have two types of toasts here and I highly recommend the Garlic&Cheese bread.
The bread is soft and chewy and the garlic and cheese is just fantastic! (hahaha I think there’s a reason why I’m not a food blogger but a language blogger – I am so much better at reviewing textbooks!)
They have quite a varied drinks menu and we picked the more special ones to try!
Misugaru latte (on the right) was really good! Misugaru (미숫가루) is a traditional Korean healthy drink popular in summer and it’s made of a number of grain types ground into power. I had in Korea and loved it ever since. The non-coffee latte is smooth and not overpowering in taste – quite the comfort drink!
Sweet potato latte (on the left) is less to our liking. It’s too strong and I prefer eating sweet potato to drinking it >< I guess it’s one of those you like you like, don’t like means don’t like type of drink.
They have quite a number of yoghurt drinks. This blueberry yoghurt smoothie is not too sweet, and really really good. There’s none of those artificial syrupy aftertaste which I hate.
Would recommend the blueberry blossom tea cocktail!!!!! The blueberry bits makes it pretty special and it’s one of those drinks that you will find yourself craving for every now and then.
hehe look at how happy Latchimi was 😀
I’m not a waffle fan but this has me converted. This Choco Nuts waffle is served warm , with a generous topping of nuts and chocolate chips. You can have it either in plain dough or with walnut-embedded dough (good). I love how the size is just nice for one if you want something filling and also good to share!
Caffebene has always been my favourite chain k-cafes and if you are a fan like me, why not get some merchandise while you are there?
I was eyeing the clear cup and the the bingsu bowl lolol.
I’m extremely impressed by the quality of everything that’s there – really. There’s a lot of effort being put into every single little detail and I think that translates into a very very good experience for the customer. I don’t know the bosses personally but meeting them for the first time today really made me respect them for their enthusiasm and effort in bringing that authentic experience here to Singapore.
I’m also very humbled that they invited me, seeing that I’m neither a prominent food blogger nor am I a huge influencer in SG. This space is just for me to share my love for Korea and now I’ll like to extend that love to this awesome cafe! ♥
I know I’ll be back many many times!
