Bottlenecks in language learning

Oops, sorry for the sporadic postings. I’ve been immersed in fantasy/mystery/thriller novels for the past week or so and I’ve taken to re-reading the harry potter series again (backwards).

I realised I haven’t been blogging much about korean these days and I’m straying from my initial aim of recording my korean learning journey! One year ago, I can study clock about 7-8 hours a day studying korean. I still remember sitting in front of my desk, with all my study materials spread around me. I was so engrossed in studying that I can get rather oblivious of things around me. It was an enjoyable process and I am one of those freaks people who loves studying.

But I am in one of those irritating bottleneck these days! Progress is minimal and slow but I try to do a bit everyday. It’s frustrating how my concentration span is dwindling and I find myself doing other non-related stuff.

Language skills get rusty if left alone for too long. Hence I try to do keep my brain well oiled by watching korean dramas and listening to korean pop – not much brain power is needed and I get to practice my listening skills too (:

I hope to get back to full speed mode soon.

Anyway, I’m back to using the Integrated Korean Series. It’s getting harder to find those books in library and I always borrow whatever I find on the shelves. Hence sometimes I’m doing advanced intermediate 2 and sometimes advanced 2! haha

I’ll probably finished advanced intermediate 2 and go back to advanced intermediate 1. I’m coping well with both so I guess it’s alright? XD

Anyway have you guys experienced bottlenecks in language learning and if so, how did you solve it?

    Hi

I can understand what you are going through.

For my case, give myself a break after learning Japanese for a few years. Focus on other things which I have neglected.

After a while, I miss this language and my momentum is back. Then I continue learning once again.

I also have such periods, when I´m simly just stuck in one place, want to learn more, but I can even hardly move. To get out of such depressive days I usually don´t do any serious study, but keep listening to music, watching films or reading. Then I get a bit relaxed, but practiced a bit and my enthusiasm slowly comes back. I think you should keep watching “Tha Man Who Can´t Get Married” and afterwards you´ll just simply rush to learn more Korean. 😉

    Hi

You are going for TOPIK (Intermediate level) this September?

Heard from my teacher, she said the intermediate level is very tough.

I am also going for TOPIK but beginner level only.

Have to brush up in my vocabulary as the reading passage is slightly difficult. Some of the words which I didn’t come across before. If unable to comprehend will get silly mistakes even there are answers given. Then say “Good Bye” to those “Precious marks”…

The registration for TOPIK had started from 29 June to 15 July’09. Exam fee is S$80.00. Able to send by cheque or go to Korean School.

hello! (: I would think that it matches with intermediate 1&2 of integrated korean grammarwise.

the integrated korean series is really great, and I’m learning loads from the advanced intermediate II right now. I highly recommend it ^^

Thanks for the information! I just checked and my eyes nearly popped out cause there are 10 books in the series. You’re only on the 6th book, but you can write blogs in Korean. So you’ve made my decision: I am getting that series! I hope you can reach “Integrated Korean: High Advanced Level 2” smoothly and then you’ll be the learning champion!
