Went down to RELC to watch the 4th Korean Speech contest today. I really enjoyed it, especially since I could understand what all the speakers were talking about. There were 20 contestants, out of which 4 were guys. There was even a contestant from Myanmar! cool.
The winner of the contest was a Malaysian who talked about the differences in culture between Malaysia and Korea. I was seriously impressed by him. His Korean is fluent and he makes the extra effort to interact with the audience and I think that’s what makes him stand out among the contestants. 사연스럽게 말하고 내용도 재미있고.. 진짜 대단하시네요! His speech is throughly enjoyable and occasionally he would end off his sentence by saying 맞죠? and the audience would go ‘네!’
He wore the traditional malay costome on stage too and I think it adds a bonus to his whole performance (: 너무 축하해요! ^^
I met my E1 teacher too and was pretty surprised that she could still remember me.
그리고 옛날의 반 친구들도 만나게 되었어요. They were all pretty surprised to see me 😀 Hmm if I had stay in SKS, I will be in Intermediate 1 already.
오늘은 진짜 재미있게 보냈어요. ㅋㅋ 제 어머니도 같이 갔는데 한국말 모르셔서 이야기를 이해할 수 없어요. ㅋㅋ
다음에 봐요. ^^

2 December, 2008 at 1:18 AMhi, its me, the winner of the contest named adam. wow, thanks for praising me. but u know what had happened next? i recieved an email stated that the judge committee wanted to review my winning due to the problem that i won the first prize in the advanced level in malaysia last year ( i wasnt the grand prize winner – that meant no ticket to korea).
i went to singapore again last week, it was really stressful, keep arguing and replying email to them. i told them that i didnt know the rules and regulations , moreover , if i would have known , i wouldnt came to singapore. i said to them, it wasnt stating in the rules and regulations. u know, i was really stressed up, so i told them, i wanted to withdraw my prizes in order no to argue with them.
after settling the arguement. i felt like i finally could take a deep breath. i went there not for the prize, but for experience. i really didnt expect that i will win. so, i returned all my prizes to them. Now is not the problem for them to review my winning, but i wanted to returned all my prizes.
nice meeting u those who like korean. i plan to go for my master there next year.
thanks for praising me again in the blog. take care

3 December, 2008 at 8:21 AMSorry adam, but i heard from some that the speech script you’ve used for this contest is similar to your previous contest at malaysia? I dont mean to hurt you, but hopefully this rumour of you isnt true. Nevertheless, your speech was indeed marvellous and captivating. good luck for your future endeavours.

20 December, 2008 at 12:53 AMSo what if he uses previous contest text, Elliot? Is it stated anywhere in the rules & regulations of the contest that the contestants can’t do that?
:D
