30th TOPIK (Advanced) Results!

Days whiz by when you don’t take notice of time but hours crawl by when you’re subconsciously counting down to something. That’s how I feel at the moment, with TOPIK results coming out in a few hours. I’m not exactly obsessed with counting down to it, but it’s just in my nature to start counting down when you give me a fixed day/time. So if you tell me that I’ve a meeting at 3pm, I’ll be counting down to it too ><

A lot of things to do at the moment, but time is crawwwwling.

I think I’ll be in for a surprise in a few hours time, just that I’m not sure if the surprise is a pleasant or nasty one. Astute readers may have realize that I seldom talk about Korean these days and to be honest I’m putting Korean at the back of my mind for now, while waiting for …. something. ^^

Till 3pm KST! Cya.

Results are out! I passed TOPIK 6 but for the first time ever (out of the 3 times I have taken TOPIK), I feel quite… sad/emotionless.

I know that every TOPIK paper is different, but I can’t help but compare a litte. The following was my results for TOPIK Advanced exactly 1 year ago.

I MADE NO IMPROVEMENT IN GRAMMAR/VOCABULARY.

Okay, I’m really kinda shocked as I’m pretty sure that my vocabulary did expand (by quite a bit) in the past year and I did work hard to learn all that advanced grammar. But I only have my short term memory to blame for the grammar part, they just won’t stick in my memory ㅋㅋㅋ

쓰기 was kinda expected. I know I was writing rubbish in the compo. ㅠㅠ

Made some improvement in 듣기 and 읽기. Quite pleased with my ears and all that reading (done last year) must have helped lol.

kinda funny how I was totally happy about passing level 5 one year ago and saying how it was so unexpected and now I’m like so ambivalent over my level 6 results. >< Feels like I haven’t improve much over the year. Can’t complain about it cos I didn’t put in the effort anyway.

It’s likely that I won’t be taking TOPIK for the next 2 years unless I’m forced to do so. ^^

But the Korean learning journey is far from over.

I will be working hard.

Heartfelt congratulations! However I do understand your disappointed reaction. You set your own goals, whether intentionally or not and even when we don’t put all our efforts into a project, when we don’t fulfil our potential, it pinches. Nonetheless, it really is a great achievement and as you say the journey isn’t over so in your own time and way, I am sure you will surpass even your own expectations soon enough.

    Congratulations!
I was dreaming about it all night and woke up several times so I cannot imagine what it must have been like to have to do something constructive during the day while waiting (I got my result at 8am).
I don’t think you can say “no improvement” in grammar/vocab – it also depends on what they ask you. Both your reading and your listening improved so you must have been catching more than last time – you just weren’t tested on that general understanding in the vocab section, but it helped you read and listen.
Also, a learning curve will naturally flatten the more advanced you get so the smaller jumps you can expect when tested.

That’s true, it’s less likely to experience a big jump. Congrats on passing too!! 😀 😀

    Hello, Shanna!!
Congratulations on getting Topik 6. Although the results may not be as you expected, at least your results are worth your efforts. I really admire you, so I hope that you will keep moving forward ^^
I’m just worried because I heard there will be speaking part on the Topik test some time in the future.

why do you mention “It’s likely that I won’t be taking TOPIK for the next 2 years unless I’m forced to do so. ^”
isn’t it the highest level anyway and passing is passing?

Sadly, the TOPIK results are valid for 2 years only… if you want to use them for job/school applications, that is.

I started typing a comment on my phone last night, but somehow it could not post. I apologize for the delay.., Congratulations on “conquering” your exam. I know you’ve been waiting on pins and needles for the results. I think there may be a scientist in you in that even though you passed you are looking for areas that you can shore up (its not a bad thing because I do the same thing lol). Anyway, congratulations again, and TTYL.

Congrats on passing level 6! It must be a relief to get the results and found out that you passed.
Even though these are not the result excepted, I see that you are moving forward and can only be doing so from now on.
    Next step: JLPT N3 passed?

Congratulations! How envious I am 🙂

As for me, I very cleverly discarded my ID slip after the test, being the thoughtless TOPIK 1st-timer that I am 🙁 So now I’m trying all sorts of ways to retrieve my id number from the TOPIK website but to no avail. I may just have to wait for SKS to snail-mail the darned results slip to me. AHHH.

Congratulations! 😀 I was waiting for your results and hoping you passed so I’m really happy to read this. I’m surprised your grammar/vocab grade didn’t go up with all the reading you do. I guess it just shows that tests aren’t a 100% accurate example of someone’s abilities and that there’s always more to learn. (Yay for more to learn! I don’t understand why having more to learn makes me happy, but it does. XD)
