2 years after intermediate TOPIK….

Can’t believe that more than 2 years have passed since I first and last took TOPIK in 2009. Feeling so nostalgic that I dug out my old blog post about my results lol

2 years have passed by and I’m kinda wondering where I stand now. I promised myself that I will take TOPIK only when I have the confidence to pass Level 6. But I’ll definitely take it in 2012, during the ONLY ONE time that it is offered in Singapore (in Oct) just because I don’t think I want to wait anymore.

The weather is too cold (by my standards) to be outside, so I have been taking the time to study Korean, ermm no, actually just trying out the 24th TOPIK advanced paper. I did the listening yesterday night and got a terrible headache and a terrible score of 72. And I just finished the reading component while thinking of food the whole time and got another lousy score of 75. D:

And listening and reading are supposed to be my strongest component. D:

(im hungry….)

I shall go review the reading part after typing this post.

I’ve been too lax in my Korean study (I barely did anything for the past 2 years).

Need to work harder.

😀 I’ve studied Korean for two years, but can barely pass TOPIK 2… Ok, I admit, I haven’t studied as intensively or in an appropriate way as I should have. But I’ve mainly tried to work hard for the past half year or so.
It’s pretty much like that in all of my languages. Studied French in high school, did the international baccalaureate and I’m still at intermediate level and can’t seem to progress (I admit I don’t posses a passion for French).
Japanese, studied on and of for for 7-8 years, can barely do the level 3 exam, because I am never able to remember Kanji. But my aim is to take the December exam next year. Not sure if level 3 or 2 (-hope I got the levels right, get confused with the TOPIK system). Depends on how intensively I study.
As for Korean, made some progress, but get frustrated at it. My initial ambition to take the intermediate test in April is slowly diminishing, as I barely get TOPIK level 2 scores (balancing on average around the 70% mark). I especially hate the part where I have to find mistakes. *_* Wish I had more time to study. And luckily there isn’t a speaking section (I made a fool of myself in the local Korean supermarket -_-).
I wonder where is the secret to learning to speak a language fluently and progressing from one level to the next. Sometimes I don’t know if I should learn grammar, learn vocabulary, attempt to read, listen, do past papers. So many aspects to a language.

But anyway …. good luck with the advanced TOPIK exam!!! 😀

thanks so much!! ^^ i never thought i’ll be able to progress so far with a foreign language though. but korean no longer seems like ‘a foreign language’ to me anymore.

I don’t really think there’s any secret formula, but the more you enjoy it and the less you think about progressing, the easier it is. I agree that there are many aspects to a language, but you just have to do them all 😀

thanks so much!! not much time left to prepare…. ><
