8 In Japanese learning journey (:/ Korean learning journey (:

일기예보 / 天気予報

ㅎㅎ One of the familiar topics in language learning at the beginner-intermediate level: Understanding the weather forecast.

Brings back so much memories. I still remembered looking at a weather forecast photo in Korean and learning all the related words like 소나기, 맑다, 비 오다, 전국, 지방 etc and then going on to learn the more advanced words like 푹설, 꽃샘추위 etc.

Still remembered the first time I watched a weather forecast on Korean TV. I love the way they do weather forecasts in Korea. The announcers are all sooo pretty! And professional. Really like their voices. And I love how the weather forecast is so animated and interesting! 😛

Now I’m back to learning about weather forecasts. In Japanese. Somehow I always find anything in Japanese a little more difficult.

It’s interesting to see how the weather forecast announcements differ  between the 2 countries XD

If you are at the stage of learning weather forecasts in Korean, do youtube some of the related videos and practice your listening skills! ^^

It’s more fun to learn that way.

Who says self studying have to be boring and mundane? (:

I learned through reading and obviously helped a lot since Korea’s weather sometimes is unpredictable. I wanna learn how everything goes in Japan as well but still have a long way to go! I haven’t finished learning katakana yet 🙁

hahaha!! yeah totally agreed. there are so many vocabulary to be learnt from a single forecast since the weather can differ a lot between regions.

Katakana. bane of my life XD

Feel proud to be able to understand the japanese forecast somewhat. 😀 But my listening skills have gone a bit rusty since in the past two years I watched a minimum of Japanese dramas and programmes compared to three years ago. : D

Thanks for these tips and posting a link to a Korean weather forecast.
On the topic of katakana, when I was learning Japanese, it took me 2 months to learn it. And people say it’s easier than hiragana but hiragana only took 1 week for me. Even kanji was/is easier for me.
