우리들의 행복한 시간

I don’t know if I’m just biased, but there’s something about Korean movies that will draw me in (most of the time), and hit a chord in my heart.

우리들의 행복한 시간 is a 2006 movie staring Kang Dong Won and Lee Nayoung, two of my favourites. It was adapted from a novel and I first came across it in the Yonsei 6 Reading textbook. It was one of the longer readings at the end of the book. The chapter was good and it sparked my interest.

Finally caught the movie and I’m totally blown away. I don’t really want to call it a tearjerker (it has some negative connotations to me) but I totally bawled my eyes out. To illustrate how much I cried, here’s a scale.

1. choked feeling *sniff*
2. watery eyes *sniff* *sob*
3. tears trickling down
4. tears flowing down, blocked nose (silent crying)
5. uncontrollable audible crying, blocked nose, heartache, mucus flowing down

I hit level 5 for this movie. Quite rare, the last time I cried so much, I think it was during the drama A wonderful life. A few hours have passed, but I still find myself thinking about the movie and that’s how I define a good movie.

The poster looks really plain but don’t be put off by it.

I’m not good with words, but please just watch it.
Don’t watch the trailer first though, it just gives away too much of the story. Just enjoy ^^

I shall attempt to study korean now, but my thoughts still linger on the movie.

p.s. Don’t you think Kang Dong Won and TOP has similar looks and vibe? I think I’m attracted to that kind of guys. xD

I saw this movie with my sister since she’s a big 강동원 fan. The story is quite nice and heart aching. Not too much drama but in a nice way the flow of the story is well showed though in some parts I feel like it’s bleh. Nice that it’s in Yonsei’s textbook!

I hit level 3 when reading 그대를 사랑합니다. Rare for me to tear up at all reading a book and a comic at that! Downloaded the movie but haven’t watched it yet tho.

Watch it!!! I just watched it the other day!!!! Surprisingly they managed to fit almost everything from the 3 books into the movie! I’ve been trying to find the korean subtitles – my listening skills really suck~~ if I hadn’t already read the books I would have had no idea what they were saying!

It looks good. I even like the poster. I’ll have to find this and then prepare a box of tissues. Thanks for the recommendation.
