Everyone has different learning habits. Personally, I like to spend hours at one go when it comes to learning languages. I don’t like the feeling of lack of time or feeling rushed when I’m studying languages, especially during the beginner/intermediate stages. Maybe I’m trying to learn other languages the way I learn Korean, but I really like spending the whole afternoon/day at one go. One hour a day is not the way for me.
I’m trying to sit down and really study Japanese, and obviously I’m failing due to all the commitments and work that I have to complete. Whenever I sit down with my books, I’ll get that nagging feeling that I still have loads of work to do and it’s really distracting and … disturbing. I really doubt that I’ll ever get the time (holidays or not) to really study like what I did with Korean.
How do you like to learn languages? Spending alot of time at one go or spacing them out? ^^
I shall start to prepare for tomorrow’s lesson.

7 March, 2011 at 9:36 PMI just study Korean through TTMIK (not via books), and sometimes I like to see like 4 lessons continuously, but, just after seeing one of them, I’ll practise still in the computer.
Sometimes I just want to see one lesson, because is harder.
But I spend many hours in computer so by many hours I find some Korean to read 🙂
So I guess it’s like a mix? hahaha

7 March, 2011 at 10:06 PMIf I have time, I usually study for the entire morning / entire afternoon / entire evening. But since I don’t have much time lately, I just rely on our classes in the uni and doing homeworks. ㅠㅠ

7 March, 2011 at 11:10 PMI wish I could spend hours at a time studying Korean, but after I get home from work I’m pretty busy with household and child care duties. I miss my university days when I could devote a lot of time to studying… (It just gets harder after you’re married, full time employed, and have kids.) But still, I find time for Korean whenever I can. Is it “enough”? No, but I just try to make the most of what time I’ve got.

7 March, 2011 at 11:26 PMI do both! LOL~ I think when it comes to real learning, I find that spending a longer time helps me in being more observant to things like grammatical structures. Otherwise, I’m usually space out the learning. It’s so difficult to find time to learn for many hours so I just try and do things in the languages that I’m learning.

7 March, 2011 at 11:32 PMI don’t have the time for long stretchs of learning though I would enjoy it if it were so. Between work and my studies, Korean has taken a back seat but I try to some in when I can.
Ah makes me appreciate the luxury of being a full time student.
