새해 복 많이 받으세요~!

Happy Lunar New Year~!!

How do you find this new layout? I like the design, but somehow I find that it’s not so reader-friendly. Anw it’ll be a temporary change, I may switch back to the old layout.

Some updates~! ^^

Thanks to creativityjapanese, I got to know about a volunteer translation project. Sent my translated article for the translation test, and I passed! ^^ Happy~~! This is the first time I attempted translating a current affairs article and it’s really different from doing k-entertainment articles.

Firstly, no one is really that bothered if there are minor mistakes for kpop articles (erm maybe the fangirls/fanboys will mind? XD) and there’s no stress at all. The writing style is also more fluid and flexible, you can choose how you approach the article.

But for current affairs articles, there is a more or less ‘fixed’ way of writing, and you have to be familiar with that style of writing. And the stress level is high, mistakes are intolerable. I did an article on Korea-America FTA and it was fun ^^ Through the process, I picked up quite a lot of vocab.

Through this exercise, I got a glimpse of what being a professional translator really means and how hard it really is. You are responsible for what you write. Most people can’t read the original article and they depend on you to deliver the correct facts, the same tone and connotations etc. It’s not enough to be proficient in both languages, you need to be sensitive to any hidden meaning, tone etc. Of course, you must know the lingo of the specialized area and preferably, have in depth knowledge in that area.

That’s really a lot to know. But it’s also where the challenge and fun is~ ^^

Let me know how you find the layout~!

I watch Korean news but i only understand 50% i guess. I skipped level 2 & 3 and now i’m studying level 4 and it’s hard but it’s a new challenge for me! thanks for inspiring me friend^^

New layout! Great to start the Lunar New Year! I was not used to where to click to post my comment, but I’m sure I will get used to it in no time.

What you mentioned is so true! I do wonder if there will be people who curse me for not translating it properly, whenever I’m done with the translation. I mean I’m so worried that I don’t do it properly, if you know what I’m trying to say…

I have the same feelings too! I keep re-reading the translation to make sure that it flows and makes sense. Practice makes perfect (:
